Alliance Group chairman Murray Taggart caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay today fresh from a marketing trip to Malaysia, China and Japan.

Mackay wants to hit the ground running with the big question on every sheep farmer's lips - how much are they going to get paid for their lamb this season?

The return for lamb was disappointing last year and Taggart speculates on whether this downward trend will continue in the 2016-17 season.

Taggart says stock numbers are also falling and comments on how this may effect the future of the sheep industry in general.

So the sheep meat industry is in uncertain and volatile times - is there any good news?
