Lindsay Farm Dairy's third annual open day was another success.

"We had a great day, the weather was perfect. We had approximately 450 people come," said Ange Brooks, the eldest daughter of owners Paul and Christine Ashton.

One of New Zealand's largest raw milk producers, the open day at Lindsay Farm on February 24 gave people a chance to see how the 100ha family-owned and operated farm worked, including how the cows were milked and how the milk was bottled.

There was also stream to cool off in and a water slide to entertain the youngsters — who also got the chance to name a four-week-old calf, and refreshments, said Ange.

"The kids had a ball in the stream and waterslide and the food and coffee went down a treat.

"[Dad] Paul gave a great tour through the cowshed and bottling plant and Michael Ashton answered questions for everyone about the cows."

The calf ended up being called Meushi, said Ange.

"It's Japanese for 'pretty cow,'" she said.
