Richard and Pauline Adam were the stars of the recent Te Awamutu Jersey Cattle Club On Farm Competition.

The annual competition saw farms from around the district competing in eight classes over two days.

Richard and Pauline entered six classes with 15 cattle from their farm south of Kihikihi. They won all six classes — their most successful year yet.

"It was a huge surprise," Richard says. "It was a close competition and we didn't expect to do this well."

Although the couple took home trophies, they say the real prize is enjoying a tight competition and receiving recognition.

They also enjoy the social element, with competitors travelling to each other's farms during the farm visits.

The classes were judged by Pokuru farmer Derek Black, who is a member of the Te Awamutu Jersey Cattle Club.

Derek says he was impressed by Richard and Pauline's cattle.

"The cattle were well presented and I was impressed with the increased size and capacity of the jerseys. They had wonderfully good udders and perfect teat placement."

Te Awamutu Jersey Cattle Club was established in 1922 and welcomes members from Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Otorohanga and surrounding districts.
