Cool change for Hawke's Bay weather as autumn starts with rainy week

Temperatures are expected to cool throughout this week in Hawke's Bay, with a southerly change forecast to arrive on Wednesday.

Tomorrow is expected to be a warm 27 degrees, with cloud and isolated showers moving in before temperatures fall to about 21C on Wednesday when the rain fully sets in.

The MetService is then forecasting rain every day through to next Tuesday.

Southern Hawke's Bay will also be wet but colder than the rest of the region, with temperatures in Dannevirke forecast to plummet to just 16C on Thursday.

MetService meteorologist Stephen Glassey said the weather would deteriorate from Wednesday.

"The main thing for Hawke's Bay is that there is a front coming during the middle of the week. We are expecting some southerlies and rain to come in on Wednesday.

"It will get noticeably cooler as well.

"There is a bit of uncertainty as to how long it will last. The overall situation is that there is a cold front moving over the South island, and as it moves on to the North Island there is a low pressure system that develops on the front. Depending on how that low pressure system plays out will affect how long the rain will stick around the North island for.

"Certainly Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are most likely to see rain. As we get into the weekend there is a bit more uncertainty because this low pressure system may pull away to the east and it may fine up, or it may stick around and keep bringing rain."
