Two days of show jumping ended in triumph for Dannevirke riders when three placed in the top five of the prestigious Horse Grand Prix at the Dannevirke A&P Show.
After the first round a field of 19 was whittled down to the eight which had jumped clear, and after the jump off six were also clear. Placings were decided by time with Logan Massie on Intellect winning just a second from Doug Isaacson on Elmo. To cap off the Dannevirke results Maurice Beatson on Mandalay Cove, who also had two clear rounds, placed fifth.
It was a triumph for Logan Massie who had waited a long time to win at Dannevirke, doing it on his birthday.
He had to wait for the other two Dannevirke riders to complete their jump off and for Doug, the oldest rider still competing at the highest level, it was a triumph.
For Maurice Beatson another renowned local veteran going clear was proof his win last year was no fluke. Other locals had their successes. Samantha Carrington, formerly of Dannevirke came third in the Pony Grand Prix and Logan's sister Georgia Massie came fifth in the Young Rider competition.
The equestrian facilities were in full use throughout the three days with junior and senior show jumping Friday and Saturday in three rings in the oval, Show Hunter events in the back rings Friday and Saturday and Showing all Sunday.
