The Country is going "Outback with Allflex", Jamie Mackay catches up with some of the leading lights in the Platinum Primary Producers Group (comprising 150 of the largest and most productive farmers across Australasia).
Today it's the turn of the manager of the Whitney Pastoral Company - George King.
Georgeowns and operates "Coombing Park", a 3,000 hectare cattle property located at Carcoar, 250km due west of Sydney.
"Coombing Park" was established in 1826 as one of the first pastoral grants west of the Blue Mountains.
The property was built with convict labour and still has the convict made coach house, stables, shearing shed and black smith shop, solitary confinement cell and whipping chamber.
George's family has owned the property since 1880 with his great great grandfather purchasing it as part of the Cobb & Co coaching firm he was a partner in.
George took over management from his grandfather in 1996 after he had managed the property for 50 years.
Due to financial constraints King had to develop the land without the aid of herbicides and synthetic fertilisers, and he has developed an interest in sustainable ecological management of farmlands as a result.
