The big day looms for Coro St's Becky and Steve, but will the drunken bride get to say, "I do"?
Blimey, here's one for the Weatherfield Gazette: "And the groom looked resplendent in a pastel pink tie with co-ordinating bruised eye, while his bride-to-be resembled Barbie on acid."
Yes, it's Becky and Steve's wedding day this Friday on Coronation Street, and don't they make a, er, striking couple!
But while Steve's still sporting a shiner, at least the bloke's sober. Becky's so nervous that she has a few drinks to steady her nerves, and arrives at the registry office, to use her lingo, "totally bladdered".
All of which will come as no surprise to the locals. They're all convinced the day is doomed, and take bets as to whether the pair will actually marry or not. Even Steve's best man, Lloyd, has a punt.
Becky is naturally upset when she gets wind of this, so Steve drags her to the Rovers on his stag night and publicly declares his undying love - then bars everyone from the ceremony. "He does his wedding speech for them all, because they won't be there to hear it," says Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky. "She just melts; Becky can't believe that a man is speaking about her like that."
But despite Steve's defiant words, Becky is rattled on the morning of the wedding, not helped by the fact that it's Friday the 13th. She calms down thanks to a steady supply of alcohol but, when Steve nearly sees her in her dress and she hides out at the builder's yard, disaster strikes.
