George Zimmerman has reportedly been shot in the face but not seriously injured during an apparent road rage incident in Florida.
The former neighbourhood watch volunteer, who came to international notoriety after being charged and acquitted of the murder of the black teenager Trayvon Martin, was lightly injured, according to WFTV.
Footage showed him walking from his truck into a waiting ambulance.
A photograph from a local Florida television station appeared to show a bullet hole in the passenger window of his grey truck.
Mr Zimmerman has had several run ins with law-enforcement since being found not guilty in the killing of Trayon Martin.
He was arrested in January of this year on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend but no charges were brought by local prosecutors.
He was also taken into custody in November 2013 on suspicion of attacking a different woman but again was not charged.
Mr Zimmerman allegedly threatened to kill a man during a September 2014 road rage incident but was not prosecuted after the man declined to press charges.
Mr Zimmerman was carrying a gun during the incident and allegedly told the man: "I'll f***ing kill you."
