Police have found a Carterton man with a heart condition who failed to return home after an appointment several weeks ago.

Masterton Senior Sergeant Gordon Crawley said Tony Smith, 57, was located "safe and well" in Wellington yesterday afternoon.

Earlier this week, police had appealed for information about Mr Smith's whereabouts after he failed to return home from an appointment at Wairarapa Hospital on February 19.
