An 85-year-old tramper was airlifted out of Bay of Plenty bush yesterday afternoon.

The woman suffered severe cramp and was unable to walk from the Kaimai Ranges police said.

Her tramping group walked to the Waitengaue campsite, near Katikati, to get help.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue was deployed and a St John paramedic was winched into the bush to help the tramper.

She was winched out and met by a St John ambulance at nearby Woodlands Rd.
