A neighbours' dispute turned nasty after three firebombs were thrown into a bedroom where an elderly man was sleeping.
Dwayne Carlo Zimmerman, 31, was charged with arson and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he allegedly firebombed a house and threw a lit wheelie bin.
Neighbour Julian Hicks told the Herald on Sunday Zimmerman moved into a Housing NZ unit on Middlemore Rd, Otahuhu, a few months ago.
"He started leaving his door open and playing really loud heavy metal music," said Hicks.
The problems came to a head on April 10 with Zimmerman's other neighbours Hairaki Paewhenue and his son Ricky.
Their unit erupted in flames, with Hairaki just getting out.
Three units were destroyed.
Zimmerman was remanded in custody to reappear on Tuesday.
