The country's top musicians will be in full cry at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards tonight in Auckland City.

Thousands of people are expected to turn out to the biggest music event in the country, held at Vector Arena.

Artists performing tonight include electro-pop duo Kids of 88 - Sam McCarthy and Jordan Arts - who are best known for their single My House.

Among the favourites vying for awards will be Gin Wigmore, whose husky voice has shot to stardom after being the cameo singer for Smashproof's hit Brother last year.

The 24-year-old is up for Best Female Solo Artist - with Anika Moa and Hollie Smith - for her album Holy Smoke.
