An actress who appeared in the first two Captain America movies has dissed the love story in the latest Marvel film.
Hayley Atwell played Steve Rogers/Captain America's World War II girlfriend Peggy Carter in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
In this year's Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers learns that Peggy Carter has died and not long after attending her funeral he shares a kiss with Peggy's niece, Sharon Carter.
"She'd be turning over in her grave," Atwell said about what her character would think of the hook-up, according to Vulture.
"She'd be like 'no'. And she'd inject herself with the blue serum and become a supervillain. She'd break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She'd ground her. Then she'd kick Steve's ass as well.
"I just feel that, you know - I wouldn't want to date my great aunt's guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That's even more disrespectful, right? It's like, 'don't touch that. You can't tap that!'"
Some Marvel fans agree with Atwell that the Captain America/Sharon Carter love story is just plain weird and have started a social media campaign for Steve Rogers to hook up with his best mate, Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier.
