From his grimey beginnings as a Mercury Music-prizewinner to his crossover success as a rave-pop superstar, Dizzee Rascal has always delivered his rapid-fire rhymes with a cheeky grin and an eye on the charts.
That attitude gets supersized on The Fifth, an album that takes the template of his No. 1 hit Dance Wiv Me and tries to recreate it 16 separate times.
From the eye-watering AutoTune of opener Superman, the British rapper delivers a relentless barrage of EDM tropes, put-your-hands-in-the-air party cliches and lyrics like, "I'm going to get high on my birthday stash".
His guest roster is also questionable: Jessie J shows up on the I Gotta Feeling-apeing We Don't Play Around; Robbie Williams warbles like he thinks he's still relevant on Goin Crazy; and you'll be shaking your head by the time will.i.am repeatedly yells, "Get freaky" on the appropriately titled Something Really Bad.
The only redeeming features are the ripped bass muscle workout I Don't Need a Reason and closer Watch Your Back, which recalls the grinding menace of Dizzee's classic debut Boy in Da Corner.
But boy does that feel like a long time ago.

Verdict: The Rascal goes full pop. You never go full pop
