Mark Harris, of Beef + Lamb NZ, wants farmers "to put their people forward" for the organisation's awards.

Entries for the 2026 Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards close on December 8, and the organisation is encouraging Tairāwhiti farmers to put their people forward.

“It’s time to recognise the champions of our industry,” B+LNZ senior extension manager Mark Harris said.

“Think about your farm staff, fellow farmers, sector leaders, teachers, innovators, mentors, scientists, rural champions and marketers.

“Nominate them in one of the eight award categories.”

Harris said anyone working in the sheep and beef (including dairy beef) industry should feel encouraged to enter “or to nominate someone else for one or several of the award categories”.

Previous finalists and winners had been extremely positive about the experience and profile they gained through being associated with the awards.

“Select the category that best reflects the person or organisation you are wanting to nominate, then complete and submit the online form for that category.”

Eight categories fall under “People” awards or “Business of Farming” awards.

“They cover farmers, emerging achievers, breeders, scientists, teachers, marketers, technology experts, sector champions and those who have made a significant contribution over many years.”
