Central Otago high country run Mount St Bathans Station is on the market as its New Zealand owners seek a new direction in farming.
For sale by tender, the 9700-hectare station in the heart of former Otago goldmining country is expected to fetch "a seven figure digit, ifnot eight," according to Russell Reddell, of Brown Sotheby's International Realty.
Current owners Don and Anna Malcolm were putting it on the market seeking a new direction in their farming activities, Mr Reddell said today.
The distinctive working sheep and cattle station has been farmed for the last 100 years and includes both freehold and pastoral lease land.
Its mountainous country features massive valleys and large flats and includes privately accessed rivers and streams.
Mr Reddell said the property was inspired by Mt St Bathans, the highest peak in the Maniototo region commonly referred to as "big sky country" and is reflected in the work of renowned New Zealand artist Grahame Sydney.
A viable farm, the station offers many recreational and sporting pursuits.
"There are trophy chamois and deer roaming the hills and excellent trout fishing in the rivers, which should appeal to people interested in hunting and fishing," he said.
The property was being advertised within New Zealand and overseas.
"We're expecting a good range of interest both nationally and internationally," Mr Reddell said.
