Three fire trucks and a tanker attended an out of control grass fire on No 2 Line on Sunday.

Whanganui's total fire ban has ended but firefighters are urging people to take care after a grass fire at Fordell.

Fire and Emergency Whanganui senior station officer Aaron Summerhays said three fire trucks and a tanker attended a fire on No 2 Line about 8.30pm on Sunday, March 31.

"It was a grass fire that had got out of control," Summerhays said.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze which covered an area of about 50 metres by 30 metres.

"Even though we're back into an open fire season, people still need to be very careful," Summerhays said.

"Material is still very dry and it can get away on you very easily."
