After an exhausting week thanks to Mother Mature we finally have a large high rolling in promising much better weather for quake hit areas and much drier weather for water logged regions.

New Zealand is in for a relatively dry day today with areas of morning cloud and isolated showers in the north, clearing around midday and becoming mostly sunny.

Aucklanders can expect a sunny day, but with strong southwesterlies and a high of 19C.

Waikato will also see fresh southwesterlies, with some morning cloud and drizzle clearing in the morning.

In Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury, the weather will be fine apart from isolated afternoon and evening showers.

Buller and Westland residents can expect fine spells, and a few showers at times, and there will be occasional showers in Fiordland.
