Dairy farmers are being warned to keep their employment agreements and time records up to date.

The Labour Inspectorate has launched a nationwide probe into compliance of farmers in the industry.

Six farmers have already been left with infringement notices of $1000 to $2000 for breaching the basic requirements.

Labour Inspectorate regional manager Natalie Gardener says she was disappointed to find half of the farms she visited in the Waikato were in breach.

She says keeping documentation up to date is the foundation of a good employment relationship.
