  • One person is dead and three injured after an all-terrain vehicle crash in Waikato.
  • Three patients were airlifted to Waikato Hospital with critical, serious, and moderate injuries.
  • Police inquiries into the crash on French Pass Rd, Karāpiro, are under way.

One person is dead and three others are injured after an all-terrain vehicle crash in rural Waikato.

The crash occurred on private property on French Pass Rd, Karāpiro, and was reported to the police at 2.30pm.

One person died, one person suffered critical injuries, another has serious injuries, and the third has moderate injuries, police said.

Hato Hone St John said it sent three helicopters because the area was inaccessible by road.

“We also sent one road ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one manager.

“We transported one person in a critical condition, one in a serious condition and one in a moderate condition to Waikato Hospital.”

Inquiries into the crash are under way.

An Auckland Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said about 2.43pm crews were tasked alongside the Waikato and Tauranga Rescue Helicopters to Karapiro to assist multiple patients involved in a quadbike rollover accident.

“Our Westpac 3 crew assisted a male patient in his 40s who was winched onboard from a height of 40ft. He was flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.”
