The stud ram sale season in Tairawhiti ended on a high on Friday when Te Ruanui Polled Dorsets enjoyed a sell-out sale at Matawhero Saleyards, including a top price of $3800.

Craig and Yvonne Brownlie, of Waerenga-o-Kuri, put up 134 Poll Dorsets, Suffolks and PollTex, and sold the lot.

The Te Ruanui average price for the sale was $1887 and the top price was $3800.

“It was a great day for the stud,” the Brownlies said. “We appreciate the support from buyers and would like to thank all involved with the sales’ success.”

PGG Wrightson livestock genetics representative Emma Pollitt said it was “a heartening way” to wrap up the ram sale season in the district.

“Flurried bidding throughout the sale showed the confidence people have in the Te Ruanui rams.

“They know the results these sires give at the other end, and so that value was seen in the sale result.

“Well done to the Brownlie family.”
