It's time to start creating if you want to enter the make a Scarecrow competition at this year's CHB A&P Show.

It's time to start creating if you want to enter the make a Scarecrow competition at this year's CHB A&P Show.

Waipawa District Lions Club in conjunction with the CHB A&P Association are running a Make a Scarecrow competition at this year's Show on November 11.

"Entry into the competition is a gold coin donation, and winners will be selected by the public voting with cash," said Chris Wheeler of the Lions Club.

There will be four categories - Primary, College, Adult and Business - with the intention of making it an annual event to support the running of the new Waipawa Lions Mobility Van, which is due to arrive shortly.

Chris Menzies, president of the A&P Association says they are looking forward to a new attraction at the show.

Scarecrows should be brought to the A&P Showgrounds on the Saturday morning between 8am -10am, where they will be displayed along the exterior of the main fence for people to view and vote.

Voting will close at 4pm when the winner will be announced by counting the highest earnings from public votes.

Entry will be on the day at the show.

"Entrants should let their imaginations run free when designing their scarecrow. We are looking forward to seeing some amazing creations." said Mr Wheeler.

Also new this year, well-known Havelock North artist Richard Moorhead will be on site as the show's artist in residence, creating a painting on site, while another new event, the Vet Services HB Dog Show, invites dog owners to bring along their furry friends to compete for Best Dressed Dog and Owner, Biggest Dog, Smallest Dog, Happiest Dog, Cutest Dog and Dog and Owner who Look Most Alike.

Entry is free, just enter on the day.

The Terrier Racing and pet Lamb and Calf competitions are open for entries on the day as well, while entries are now open for the Top Team Challenge - these close on November 3.

Baking and Home Craft competitors should be gearing up now for their big events ... it's not too early to bake a Christmas cake for the baking section.

Trade stand space is still available.

For entries and information go to www.chbshow.co.nz, email chbap@xtra.co.nz or phone the show office on 858 8269.
