Three dimensional asparagus in Horowhenua

A Horowhenua asparagus grower is developing computer technology to help grade and weigh the crop individually.

Geoff Lewis, managing director of Tender Tips, said the vision technology took three-dimensional photos of each asparagus spear and then estimated its weight. It also graded the asparagus according to quality.

Manual weighing is impractical because the crop is processed at the rate of more than 10 spears a second.
