High-tide fishing along the Far North west coast has been producing good catches at least if the overall tally of 114 snapper, 42 kahawai and eight trevally weighed in by the nearly 60 participants at the Far North Sports Link/ The Park 90 Mile Field Day earlier this month are anything to go by.

The 90 Mile Beach Surfcasting Club contest on Sunday, May 6, attracted 51 club members and five visitors and was fished from 9am to 4pm over a 2.8m tide high at 1.30pm.

The heaviest snapper of the day, first prize, was Dave Lloyd's 8.70kg fish, second place heaviest trevally went to Roger Hall 4.08kg, and third for heaviest kahawai went to new member Phil Sauer with 1.87kg.

Other prize winners were Matt Becker 8.62kg snapper 4, Fiona Rihari 3.75kg trevally 5, Oscar Parlour 1.61kg kahawai 6, Gareth McKenzie 6.32kg snapper 7, Jo Arthur 3.03kg trevally 8, Marlene Sexton 1.57kg kahawai 9, Murray Dysart 5.67kg snapper 10.

The haggle at 3.22kg trevally was won by McKenzie with a 3.11kg trevally, while the Far North Sports Link Trophy for heaviest trevally went to Hall's 4.08kg. The prizegiving was held at the Park 90 Mile where the sponsors provided a sheep on the spit-cooked meal.
A report from the Ray White Field Day is coming.
