Ewes with lambs at foot were at least $10 dearer than last week at yesterday's Stortford Lodge store sale. Although the quality was better than last week, the rise was still remarkable.

Hoggets in the offering of about 1000 head also sold well although the quality was mixed.

Cattle prices were also strong with two-year-old friesian bulls making $3.28/kg and herefords $3.46.

However, buyers were choosy with anything other than traditional breeds or crosses being discounted.

Buyers for the more than 500 cattle and 1700 sheep were from Hawke's Bay with some support from Feilding, Taupo, Rotorua and Gisborne.
