Lamb finishers are reaching their winter numbers causing a drop in demand.

Lamb finishers are reaching their winter numbers causing a drop in demand.

Store lamb prices eased again for all but the best pens at Stortford Lodge yesterday.

The drop for ewe lambs and longer-term lambs was evident in the yarding of about 5000 head. Lamb finishers are reaching their winter numbers causing a drop in demand.
In the cattle pens the offering of
280 in-calf cows continued the trend of last month's cow fair by selling well.

The rest of the yarding of about 1000 head also sold strongly.

Buyers were from Hawke's Bay, Taihape, Gisborne and Rangitikei.

Prime sale

A shortage of processing space and lack of buyer competition saw cattle prices fall at Monday's prime sale.

Two short weeks and the number of prime stock meant a reduced demand for the 105 good-quality stock at the sale.

However, a small offering of top-quality ewes sold very strongly with the best of them reaching $138.

The 275 lambs on offer also sold well.
