Store prices for cattle reached new heights.

Store prices for cattle reached new heights.

Store cattle prices reached new heights for a quality offering at Stortford Lodge yesterday.
Prime angus steers made up to $3.38/kg while Waiterenui Angus stud two-year-old heifers reached $3.47/kg.

Two-year-old bulls were again in good demand with the best of them topping $3.30/kg.
Waitara Station, Te Pohue, sold 194 mostly angus yearling
cattle with the best of them making $5.17/kg.

The good news continued for store lambs with one line of romney ewe lambs making $181. They were bought for breeding.

Longer-term lambs eased as the time to finish them before they cut their adult teeth is running out.

Buyers for the about 800 head of cattle and 4500 lambs were from Hawke's Bay, with plenty support from Gisborne, Rangitikei, Manawatu, Taihape, Waikato and Wairarapa.

Prime sale

Big heavy oxen sold strongly while ewe prices were on a par with previous weeks at Monday's prime sale.

However, lambs went slightly off the boil to be back by $5 to $10 depending on type. Lamb prices have been particularly strong and Monday's easing could be put down to the big offering of about 2500.

A feature of the cattle sale of 26 head was the heavy oxen. Two pens of them broke the 700kg mark.
