Sheep and lamb sales are still steady.

Sheep and lamb sales are still steady.

The easing tone of the past three of four weeks continued in the store lamb market at Stortford Lodge yesterday.

Fears of a lack of rain have meant longer-term lambs have eased up to $20/head in the past month.

However, short-term lambs continued to sell well.

A feature of the lamb sale was the more than 1800 lambs from the Claremont Trust, Awamate. The farm has been sold.

In the cattle sale quality cattle sold well. A feature of the sale of about 350 head was the number of Chatham Island cattle on offer.

Buyers were mostly from Hawke's Bay with some support from Taupo, northern Gisborne, Christchurch and Waihi.

Prime sale

A shortage of processing space and increasing supply meant an easing of ewe prices at Monday's prime sale.

Medium-quality ewes made up much of the yarding of more than 4000 ewes and prices eased from the highs of the last few weeks.

Prices held up for a smaller lamb yarding despite easing schedules. The quality was more consistent than the last few weeks.

The cattle yarding of 90 head was mostly female and the prices reflected the quality.
