Ewes have sold to a solid market in Stortford Lodge.

Ewes have sold to a solid market in Stortford Lodge.

About 13,000 ewes sold on a solid market at the first combined two-tooth and mixed-age fair at Stortford Lodge on Friday.

A feature of the sale was the outstanding quality and presentation of almost all the yarding, a reflection of a kind season.

Top price for the two-tooths was $250 paid for 308 romneys from Pareroa Partnership, Omakere. Last year the same vendor sold 305 two-tooths for $170. Last year's top price was $175.50 for Patoka Station two-tooths. This year the same sheep sold for $237 with a second cut making $177.

In the mixed-age ewes top price was $171 for a pen of 307 capital stock romney ewes from M and J Louisson, Wanstead. Last year's top price was $124 for a pen of three-year romneys from a Puketitiri vendor.

Agents said the sale was solid with a good margin above schedule price. The annual drafts of star lines sold particularly well, they said.
