Heavy cattle sold well at Stortford Lodge.

Heavy cattle sold well at Stortford Lodge.

Heavy cattle continued to sell well at yesterday's Stortford Lodge store sale.

In a big yarding of about 1400 head a pen of 606kg south devon steers made $3.30c/kg or $2005/head.

Traditional-breed two-year-old steers also sold strongly in the face of concerns about the future of the beef market.

In the sheep pens much of the yarding of about 2000 head was ewes with lambs at foot from Wairoa.

They sold better than last week, especially those pens of well-grown, docked, terminal lambs.

Store lambs from the Chatham Islands and Wairoa also sold well as the rain falls and grass grows.

Buyers were from Hawke's Bay, Gisborne, Manawatu, Taupo, Taihape and Rangitikei.
