Friday's mixed-age ewe fair at Stortford Lodge saw an offering of mixed quality. Top price of $184 paid for 18 5-year-old romney ewes

Good ewes sold well in an offering of mixed quality at the mixed-age ewe fair at Stortford Lodge on Friday.

About 3000 head were on offer to buyers from Hawke's Bay.

Top price of $184 was paid for 18 big 5-year-old romney ewes offered by the Manahi Family Trust, Pakipaki. The next best price was $170 for 229 romney two-tooths offered by Richard Hunt, Havelock North. Last year's top price was $113 for mixed-age romney capital stock ewes.

Small yardings of cattle and lambs sold well at yesterday's Stortford Lodge store sale.
About 45 cattle, mostly bulls, were offered along with about 1550 sheep.

A feature of the lamb yarding was the 414 mixed-sex lambs from Chatham Island vendor Te Awatapu Downs. The shorn lambs averaged $107.50.

Prime sale

The biggest yarding of lambs and cattle for some time sold well at Monday's prime sale.
The offering of 100 cattle was only the second this year. There were also about 500 sheep and 350 lambs yarded. Most were of good quality and all sold well.
