Cattle prices continued to be strong and smaller lambs also sold well at yesterday's Stortford Lodge store sale.

The 2½-year-old angus steers on offer sold particularly well, making up to $3.30/kg.
The longer-term lambs in the yarding of about 1750 lambs sold especially well.
Buyers for the lambs and about 320 cattle
were from Hawke's Bay with one from Martinborough.

PRIME SALE

Prices remained firm at Monday's sale for small yardings of cattle, ewes and lambs.
The cattle offering of 38 head were all quality female stock which sold well.
Prices for the ewe offering of almost 800 head also remained firm while the best of the lambs also sold well.

EWE FAIR

The best capital stock ewes sold well but lesser types were harder work at the third ewe fair of the season at Stortford Lodge on Friday.

Top price of $248 was paid for 214 six-tooth romney capital stock ewes from the McLeod Partnership, Ongaonga. Their second offering of 270 four and five-year romneys made $224.

Prices were down from the fair two weeks earlier but so was the quality of some of the 3600 on offer.

RAM FAIR

Most of an offering of almost 160 rams were sold for a higher average at the annual shearling ram fair at Stortford Lodge.

Top price was $850 paid for a south suffolk ram from Te Kopanga, Elsthorpe. This compares with $700 paid last year for a texel ram. The second-top price this year was $620 for a south suffolk ram also from Te Kopanga.
