A lack of rain and stocked-up farmers contributed to slipping prices for all classes of store stock at Stortford Lodge yesterday.

Prices for a big yarding of more than 300 head eased as farmers are concerned at the lack of rain. Much of the offering came from dry areas outside Hawke's Bay and the lack of grass showed in their condition.

The same was true for the cattle sale of about 350 head. Much of the offering was dairy-cross breeds and although the angus sold well prices were down for the rest.

Buyers were all from Hawke's Bay as outside buyers stayed away because of feed shortages in their own areas.
