Rising 2-year-old angus steers sold well but some pens of Friesian bulls were passed in at yesterday's store sale at Stortford Lodge.

A big yarding of about 700 head of mostly good quality sold on a solid market.

In the yarding of about 7000 sheep the longer-term lambs were cheaper than last week. The top lines continued to sell strongly. A feature of the lamb yarding was the number of Taupo lambs. Feed is short there so the lambs are sent to Hawke's Bay where there is plenty of feed.

Buyers were from Hawke's Bay Taupo and Canterbury.

Prime sale

Good numbers of cattle and sheep continued to sell well in the rain on Monday.
In contrast to much of the year there were 42 cattle on offer. The best of a big yarding of 1051 lambs was in good demand but others were hard work for auctioneers.
The cattle were mostly heavy cows which sold well.
The ewe yarding numbered about 700. They also sold well although one line was passed in.
