There were solid sales of cattle and sheep at Stortford Lodge.

Weaner heifers sold on a solid market at yesterday's fair at Stortford Lodge.

A yarding of about 750 head of good-quality cattle sold to mostly Hawke's Bay buyers in a full rostrum.

Top price was $1080/head or $4.46/kg paid for 23 242kg south devon heifers from Glengyle Station, Weber. That compares with last year's top price of $1005/head or $3.08/kg paid for red devon heifers from Havelock North.

A good-quality yarding of older cattle also sold strongly as the good news for cattle vendors continued.

In the sheep pens, prices for a big yarding of about 10,000 head steadied on recent weeks but longer-term lambs remained strong.
