Lambs sold well at Stortford Lodge.

Lambs sold well at Stortford Lodge.

Store lamb prices came closer to earth yesterday after last week's highs.

A big yarding of about 5000 head was perhaps back in quality on last week but the easing of prices was obvious, especially for ewe lambs. The schedule remains high and agents put the fall down to cold weather cutting feed growth.

However, the stars of the sale were a small pen of nine dorset ewes with 13 lambs which sold for $112 all counted, setting a high bar for later in the season.

There was a big yarding of 2000 scanned-in-lamb ewes also on offer. The two-tooths made between $179 and $191 which agents said was disappointing. The older ewes made from $142 to $202.

In the cattle rostrum a quality yarding of more than 300 head sold on a par with earlier sales.
