Store lambs sold well at Stortford Lodge.

Store lambs sold well at Stortford Lodge.

Cattle prices eased but store lambs were in good demand at yesterday's store stock sale at Stortford Lodge.

The big cattle yarding of more than 800 head were mostly of good quality but prices eased and some pens were initially passed in.

Good R2 cattle were the exception but bulls were good buying.

In the sheep pens the first pens in the offering of more than 8000 head sold to strong demand from a good number of buyers. However, later in the sale interest dropped as buyers filled their quotas.

Prime sale

A quality offering, competition and rising schedules saw lamb prices rise sharply at Monday's sale.

The best lambs in the yarding of 1156 head, the biggest for many months, made more than $200. Top price was $206 paid for male lambs. The cheapest pen was $126.50.

Agents and buyers were surprised by the rise which they put down to competition among buyers and rising schedules. The quality of most of the offering was the also best for some time.
