Stortford Lodge: Competition results in ewe lambs selling well

The presence of one particularly active buyer led to store lamb prices lifting at yesterday's Stortford Lodge sale.

Most of the yarding of about 3500 head was good quality ewe lambs. They sold on a strong market and the male lamb market was even stronger. Agents put the market down to plenty of competition, particularly from one buyer with grass to be eaten.

The in-lamb ewes in the yarding sold very well with the best of them making $200.

Ewes with lambs at foot are beginning to appear and a pen of 17 ewes with 28 dorset-cross lambs at foot made $112.50 all counted.

The cattle yarding of about 120 head was mostly dairy or dairy-cross breeds. Two pens of two-year-old friesian bulls sold well.

Buyers were from Hawke's Bay with support from Taupo and Gisborne buyers.

PRIME SALE

A quality yarding of lambs sold on a strong market at Monday's sale.

Most of the lambs in the yarding of almost 700 head were of top quality and sold accordingly with the top price being $215.

Good ewes in smallish yarding also sold well.

There were 12 vic angus cows offered and they made good money.
