ANZ Northland Shearing Competition veteran Neil Sidwell.

Neil Sidwell, of Waiwera, who joined a shearing gang after leaving school in 1958, is the closest to a Northland representative among the finalists for the 2019 Norwood NZ Rural Sports Awards to be presented in Palmerston North next week.

He is a finalist for the Levno Contribution to Rural Sport Award along with Blenheim arborist David James and Pukekohe fencer Nick Liefting.

The awards presentation will be held during a dinner at the Awapuni Function Centre on March 8, the night before the Hilux New Zealand Rural Games in Palmerston North where award nominees and winners will be competing.
