Buyers were fairly selective when it came to choosing their wool at the latest sales.

Prices were erratic at last week's South Island wool sale in Christchurch.

Exporters were very selective with their purchases of finer crossbred types destined for China. Coarse crossbred fleece showing discolouration struggled to find a level with limited competition, Roger Fuller, of CP Wool, said.

Prices of a small offering of merino wool maintained their upward movement, with the mid-micron types very erratic on a limited offering. Older wool was starting to come on to a market that had been on hold for some time, and that  market was struggling to accommodate the supply, mainly due to the quality, he said.

A range of prices.—Lambhill Station (Otago), 46 bales Romney AA, 38.8 micron, 78.9% yield, 285 greasy, 361 clean; Cloverhill Farm (Otago), four bales crossbred AA, 37.5 micron, 73.4% yield, 263 greasy, 358 clean; Fanning family (Otago), four bales Romney AA, 33.8 micron, 78.1% yield, 307 greasy, 393 clean; Mt Hope Ltd (Roxburgh), 10 bales Perendale hogget, 30.8 micron, 79.1% yield, 456 greasy, 576 clean; D R Brown and Sons (Otago), 29 bales Romney hogget, 34.7 micron, 74.6% yield, 287 greasy, 385 clean; H F Cameron and Sons (Otago), 16 bales crossbred hogget, 34.2 micron, 77.3% yield, 307 greasy, 397 clean; Newhaven Farms Ltd (North Otago), 12 bales Perendale hogget, 31.6 micron, 74.2% yield, 340 greasy, 458 clean; D and M Robertson (Otago), two bales Romney lambs, 29.7 micron, 81% yield, 366 greasy, 452 clean; J Ironside Ltd (Palmerston), three bales halfbred hogget, 24.7 micron, 67% yield, 879 greasy, 1312 clean, 11 bales halfbred hogget, 26.3 micron, 69.5% yield, 739 greasy, 1063 clean; Ben Lomond (Queenstown), five bales merino, 14.2 micron, 69.9% yield, 2045 greasy, 2938 clean; Cullen Farms Ltd (Outram), 34 bales crossbred hogget AA, 32.1 micron, 76.5% yield, 308 greasy, 403 clean; Black Rock Farms Ltd (Outram), 20 bales Romney hogget AA, 34.3 micron, 77.1% yield, 270 greasy, 350 clean; W S and L A Murray (Stirling), 10 bales fine crossbred hogget AA, 32 micron, 75.4% yield, 327 greasy, 434 clean; Larsen and Co (Lawrence), 12 bales crossbred lambs AA, 30 micron, 80.9% yield, 334 greasy, 413 clean; G M and C A Shaw Co Ltd (Balclutha), 27 bales crossbred AA, 36.6 micron, 74.2% yield, 247 greasy, 333 clean; Brookdale Farm Holdings Ltd (Middlemarch), 12 bales Romney hogget AA, 33.2 micron, 74.3% yield, 291 greasy, 392 clean; Malvern Downs Ltd (Cromwell), one bale merino hogget AAAA, 17.5 micron, 67.5% yield, 1731 greasy, 2564 clean; J P and J Allan (Oamaru), 11 bales fine merino AA, 17.4 micron, 72.6% yield, 2009 greasy, 2767 clean.
