Wairoa area triallist Becs Baynes picked up an overdue win when she won the straight hunt with Tom at the Tikokino-Olrig trials in Central Hawke's Bay last weekend.

Scoring her first win since claiming a zig zag title with Biddy at Okawa a year ago, she was one of three newcomers to the season's winners on the Hawke's Bay circuit.

The long head was won by Howard Ingles with Lou, and the zig zag by Mark Murphy and Ben, but champion heading dog triallist Bob Bruce was still able to grab the usual bag of points with star performers Susan and national champion Cheat.

It was Susan that claimed the short head and yard title, making it the fifth trial in nine club trials in Hawke's Bay this season that has seen the Bruce name on top at the end.

There are no trials over the Easter Weekend, although a heading and handy dog trial will be held at the Royal Easter Show in Auckland, with a top prize of $1000 in the Easter Sunday runoff.

The next in Hawke's Bay are the Okawa trials on April 6-7, the last before the closing date for entries for the North Island championships at Te Aute in May. In Wairarapa SHB, East Coast stages its trials at Porangahau next week, while Poverty Bay trials will be held at Waingake, southwest of Gisborne.
