Looking down on the property hit by a slip on Whanganui's Bastia Hill
A sudden land slip has damaged the deck and a retaining wall of one Whanganui property and come down onto another.
The slip occurred on Tuesday, hitting Bastia Hill properties on Wairere and Mt View Roads.
Whanganui District Council building control team leader Greg Hoobin said the cause of theslip was not yet known but there was no danger to property or the occupants.
"No property owners were asked to move out of their properties but the owners of the Mt View Rd property made the decision on their own to leave the house overnight," he said.
Council officers asked engineers to assess safety on Wednesday morning and both found there was no risk to buildings or occupants.
"The taped-off area was a precaution on the night of the slip and the owners will engage contractors to remove the soil on their property," Hoobin said.
"All residents are able to reside in their property at any time."
"This is now a private matter between the property owners and their insurers."
No other properties on either Wairere Rd or Mount View Rd have been affected.
