Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty will be hosting the meeting.

What is a fair price for commercial water?

A public meeting will ask this question and discuss the ramifications of exporting fresh water out of the country.

Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty is hosting the meeting at Eastern Institure of Technology tonight. She, along with Dr Adele White from Ngati Kahungunu, economist Peter Fraser, Chris Kennan of Horticulture NZ, Labour MP Stuart Nash, Hawke's Bay regional councillor Peter Beaven and Corina Jordan of Fish and Game NZ, will speak.

Ms Delahunty believes those who use water for private profit should pay for the privilege. The debate over exporting fresh water in plastic bottles has touched a nerve across the country, she said.

"All commercial users such as farmers, irrigators, and industrial users have a duty to pay for the privilege of using water."

Ms Delahunty said the Government was "washing its hands of this debate" by say ing no one owns the water.
