Owahanga Station Horse Trek will be run for the second year on Saturday, February 17, from 10am to 4pm.

Owahanga Station offered to host the trek again this year, with proceeds to Pongaroa School. The station is on the coast, rich in history, bush, beach and farm.

"It is well tracked with plenty of farm to ride on, with lots of stunning views to enjoy — which is what most horse trekkers love," local Bridget Spain says. "Pongaroa is a fantastic rural area with hard-working, friendly locals, great facilities and loads of events happening through most of the year."

The Pongaraoa Home and Schools — a committee of parents, teachers and the new principal of Pongaroa school — parents and locals volunteer their time, skills, facilities and equipment for fundraising days, such as a golf tournament, crutching days and catering.

The funds go towards children's needs at Pongaroa School that the Ministry does not fund.
