Good prime lambs sold for $107 to $135

Good prime lambs sold for $107 to $135

It is definitely starting to feel more like winter; 90ml rain for some of us last Friday afternoon, close to a frost most mornings and a cold wind, including a four day week there has been quite a drop in cattle numbers coming to market.

Autumn feeder calf numbers are dropping rapidly and early spring calves are only four weeks away.

Dargaville Sale:

Dargaville was very light and not worth reporting; there was no Monday sale at Wellsford with Queen's Birthday on June 5.

Wellsford Sale Tuesday 6th:

Kauri Sale:

Kauri on Tuesday 6th was very small with just a hand full of store cattle and 76 feeder calves, which sold okay. 18-month Hereford cross steers sold for $1030 and 15-month Whiteface steers $805. Good feeder calves sold for $300 to $330, then $200 to $295, down to $130 to $190 and light calves $50 to $90.

Kaikohe Sale:

With the short week cattle numbers on Wednesday 7th were down, the market was harder as we get into winter and farmers are starting to fill their requirements. Heavy steers made $1195 to $1480 (2.63c-2.70c). Lighter steers made $1100 to $1200 (2.75c-2.85c). Good Jersey bulls sold for $800 to $900 (2.50c-2.60c) other 20-month bulls made $725 to $860 (3.14c-3.46c) and weaner bulls sold for $500 to $600 (3.10c-3.30c) for Friesian beef bulls and Angus Friesians. Small bulls made $355 to $430 (2.58c-4.30c) (2.60c-3.15c).

Heavy heifers made $1210 (2.73c). Angus Charolais and Whiteface heavy heifers $800 to $1000 (2.70c-2.76c), 1-year heifers were hard work and sold for $500 to $620 (2.52c-6.20c). VIC Ayrshire cows sold for $930 to $1015 (1.85c-1.86c) and in-calf Friesian cows $800 to $1000 (1.80c). Light MT cows sold for $500 to $700 (1.50c-1.60c).
