No people injured, one cow killed in Auckland crash

An Auckland cow had a taste of freedom this evening after escaping its paddock - but it was sadly short-lived.

The cow was hit and killed by a car around 6.30pm on a rural road in Waiuku, south of Auckland.

Police were called at 6.34pm to the accident on Awhitu Rd, between Craig Rd and Gordon Rd.

Fire and ambulance attended the crash but nobody in the car was injured, the spokeswoman said.

"The vehicle is no longer blocking the road. The cow is deceased but is off the road."

It was not known if the cow's owner had been advised of the accident.
