Results were “through the roof” at the annual Puketoro Station on-farm sheep and cattle sale which drew an excellent turnout of buyers and spectators on Wednesday.
Central Livestock auctioneer Shane Scott said results were well above expectations for the Ihungia Road property located inland from Tokomaru Bay.
“There was alarge turnout of buyers and onlookers and they did not hold back in their bidding,” he said. “Many of the lines were sold to repeat buyers. The sale result went through the roof.”
Scott said the sheep and cattle were presented in very good condition.
The Puketoro Station cattle sold well, with the best of the 15-month-old steers going for up to $1840, and the best of the heifers up to $1440.
“Buyers came to buy the big lines of quality-bred livestock ... we had buyers from Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu and the Waikato there.
“The McNeil family [station owners] were very pleased with the excellent result, and, as usual, the hospitality was top-notch.”
The best of the 15-month-old Angus heifers on offer (300 in total) sold for up to $1440, while the best of the 15-month-old Angus steers (850 on offer) made up to $1840.
