The Far North Organic Growers' and Producers' Society has launched into a new year with its AGM and a field day hosted by John Clarke and Aynsley Quenault at Ake Ake Winery.
After the meeting, and lunch shared lunch in exquisite surroundings, John and Aynsley led their guests on aguided tour of the vineyard.
John explained the seven varieties of grapes, each requiring specific production techniques.
He also spoke about the challenges of his transition to full organic certification, and the trials, tribulations and successes of an organic vintner in the Far North.
"This is an inspiring property set in beautiful surroundings producing quality organic wine," society secretary Kris Khaine said.
The society offered affordable organic certification, from small home enterprises selling at farmers' markets to larger national producers, she said. For more information contact Kris on (09) 408-4212 or email krisnterry@wnation.net.nz
