At the moment the Dairy industry is not in the most optimistic frame of mind and another dip in the GDT this week won't help matters.

There is however, one beacon of optimistic light in a sea of pessimism and that is ASB's rural economist Nathan Penny.

Penny had a chat to The Country's Jamie Mackay today.

Mackay is determined to find out if the perennially positive 'Pollyanna' Penny is still sticking with his $6 payout prediction for the 2016-17 season.

Is this latest drop in the GDT the beginning of a downward trend? Or is it just a small speed bump on the dairy highway to glory?
