Mosgiel-based technology company TracMap has received further recognition for its contribution to the Australian wine industry.

It recently won the grape growing category in the Australian Wine Industry Impact Awards, presented at a function in Adelaide.

TracMap was established by Colin Brown in 2006 after he identified a gap in the market for a rugged and easy-to-use GPS guidance and mapping system specifically designed for New Zealand conditions.

While he initially saw the opportunity in ground spreading, the application was pushed wider as it was developed.

TracMap now specialises in systems for the agriculture, horticulture, viticulture and aviation sectors in New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

The latest accolade recognised the company's collaborative approach to providing "game-changing" GPS guidance and job management solutions to customers in the viticulture industry.

The judges were impressed with TracMap's system, saying the solution dramatically increased grower capability and knowledge, including "easy data capture", live job sharing and feedback/reporting from accurate variable spraying with linear rate capability.

"It demonstrated the ability for growers to adopt and apply the easy and accurate technology to eliminate errors, improving efficiencies, sustainability, accountability, quality and profitability in a way not previously possible," they said.

The TracMap product's significant impact was demonstrated through its rapid growth and uptake throughout the Australian wine industry, as more than 100 systems were operating in vineyards and orchards throughout Australia. That was backed up as a "game changer" by a number of testimonials presented.

TracMap's Australian sales managers, Don Thorp and Michael De Palma, accepted the award on the company's behalf.
